Training Plan of Master's Degree for Foreign Master Students Major in Ecology in China

1、Training Objectives (Including the orientation of the students, knowledge, ability and quality requirement)
（1）、Professional Requirements
The student should master the basic theory, professional knowledge and experimental skills of ecology, and acquire the innovative consciousness in scientific research and the specialized technical level of independent work.
（2）、Practical and scientific research ability
The student should be able to read English literature of this subject, and have the ability to write professional research papers in English and use computer skillfully.
2、School system and length of schooling
The professional school system is for 3 years, and the longest duration of study is no more than 4 years (including suspension).
3、Research area (Name and description)
（1）Conservation ecology
Focus on the biodiversity resources, species distribution and the endangered species protection in the three gorges region and Shennongjia region. According to the characteristics of regional ecological environment to analyze the properties of regional species diversity and its formation mechanism. Study on the biological characteristics and ecological habits of rare and endangered species, combine with human and natural disturbance including the hydropower projects, agricultural development, to reveal the endangered mechanism of species from the level of individual, population and ecosystem, in order to protect the rare species and provide the reliable technical support for biodiversity with this region.
（2）Restoration ecology
Aimed at the prominent problems in the restoration of the typical fragile ecosystem in the three gorges region,to find out the reasons, mechanisms and solutions of degradation in that typical ecosystem and the ecological restoration technology. Focus on the problems of ecosystem degradation and water environment security in the reservoir region caused by the construction of large-scale hydropower projects, to discuss the restoration principle and technology of the reservoir riparian area. Study the whole restoration technology according to the characteristics of regional landscape ecological composition and ecological process. Explore the mechanism and technology of coupling restoration between soil microenvironment system and soil microbial community to protect the soil degradation in the ecosystem of the three gorges region.
（3） Forest ecology
It mainly includes: 1) the forest ecosystem of Three Gorges Region, Shennongjia Region and other concerned region; 2) the influence of nitrogen deposition to the biodiversity of native Nostoscommunevauch , which is the food of the Rhinopithecus roxellana; 3) the delayed fertilization mechanism of Euptelea pleiosperma; 4) exotic species fertilization community return nutrients and soil microbial community; 5) types and structural characteristics of shrub in the three gorges reservoir region; 6) the mechanism of Distylium chinense (Fr.) Diels to adapt to the cross drought-flooding tolerance ,which is a dominant species of three gorges reservoir region.
（4）Environmental ecology
A method with high sensitivity and selectivity was developed for the analysis of toxic organic pollutants (TOPs) and eutrophication algal toxins in water. The research focuses on the synthesis and characterization of bionic photocatalysts, organometallic complexes and nanomaterials, exploring the process of ecological environmental pollution control, and studying the degradation mechanism of toxic organic compounds and algal toxins on the surface of catalytic materials.
四、Credit requirement
The total credits for the master's degree in ecology in China should be no less than 30 credits, of which the course credits should be no less than 25 credits, and 5 credits for practice sections. Among the course credits, there are 23 credits for degree course, and 2 credits for optional courses.

6、Practice section （Content, Methods, Time and Credits, Requirements and Assessments, etc.）
No less than 5 credits in Practice section
（1）Research Practice
During the study period of master students, the postgraduate should participate in scientific research projects under the guidance of their supervisor. Meanwhile the postgraduate should engage in research practice, including social surveys, scientific experiments, scientific research, write literature review reports, research papers, and participate in group meetings and seminars of research groups, which recorded with 3 credits.
（2）Academic communication
During the study period of master students, the postgraduate should participate in academic communication and recorded with 1 credits, including attend more than 12 academic reports, and make academic reports more than once in public both on campus and off. Supervisors are encouraged to support master students to participate in academic conferences at home and abroad.
（3）Teaching practice
The postgraduate should take part in teaching practice activities according to the needs during their postgraduate study and recorded with 1 credits. The time of classroom teaching practice shall not be less than 1 month, and the task of classroom teaching shall be limited to 2-4 hours.Before the teaching practice, the postgraduate should attend lectures with the class for two weeks. During the lectures, they should take notes, questions-answer, correct homework and other tutoring work. At the end of the teaching practice, they should fill in the teaching practice examination form.
（4）Social practice
During the period of graduate study, students can participate in various forms of social practice activities according to the needs of study, scientific research and work, and recorded with 1 credits. They should write social practice reports, fill in the social practice examination form after the social practice.
（5）Facilitators and student counselors
To strengthen the coordination, communication skills and sense of responsibility of the postgraduate, the should undertake the auxiliary management, laboratory management, student consulting services of the functional departments of the university and the management departments of each school for not less than 6 months, and recorded with 1 credits.
（6）innovation, entrepreneurship and discipline competition
The postgraduates are encouraged to participate in the innovation and entrepreneurship and discipline competition activities suitable for them, and recorded with 1 credits.
7、Mid-term assessment (method, time and content.)
The mid-term assessment will conduct in the third semester. If the postgraduates fail to pass the examination, they will not be allowed to enter the dissertation work.
8、Dissertation requirement
（1）、The topic of dissertation selection
The topic selection of a graduate's dissertation should be combined with the research direction and scientific research project of the subject, which should have certain theoretical significance and academic value.
（2）、Thesis proposal
[1]Thesis proposal should be completed between the 3th with 4th semester.
[2] Research topic (including relevant research and analysis of the selected topic at home and abroad;the theoretical significance and academic value of the project, with main references, etc.)
[3]Research content: in this part you should clarify the research content, research methods to be adopted and the main technical routes;
[4] Schedule: this part should include the already achieved results and the expected results;form; arrangement; and the condition of carrying out the research.
[5] The thesis proposal shall be reviewed by relevant experts. The thesis can be proceedafter passing. The original report of thesis proposal shall be kept on file in the college.
（3）、The form and evaluation criterion of academic Dissertation
Master degree thesis should be combined with the research direction of the subject.The dissertation should be independently completed by the postgraduate under the guidance of the supervisor, and should reflect the author's mastery of solid basic theories and systematic expertise in the discipline and his ability to engage in scientific research.
The main data and charts must be obtained by the postgraduate’s own experimental.The quotation of other's results should be marked and limited. The dissertation should be in line with the paper duplicate checking requirements,and requires a high academic level and new ideas or research results.
The research workload should be more than 2 years. The main portion of the essay shall be more than 20,000 words and the references shall not be less than 80, including more than 50 foreign references.
（4）、Dissertation defense and degree awarding
The dissertation defense and degree award shall be carried out in accordance with the Detailed Rules for Degree Granting of Three Gorges University (China Three Gorges University [2014]27).
