Training plan of Master's Degree for Foreign Graduate Students Major in Chemistry in China

1、Training Objectives
（1）、Professional Requirements
The student should master the basic theory, professional knowledge and experimental skills of chemistry, and acquire the innovative consciousness in scientific research and the specialized technical level of independent work.
（2）、Practical and scientific research ability
The student should be able to read English literature of this subject, and have the ability to write professional research papers in English and use computer skillfully.
2、School system and length of schooling
The professional school system is for 3 years, and the longest duration of study is no more than 4 years (including suspension).
3、Research area
（1）、Organic synthetic chemistry
It mainly includes: 1) the synthesis and utilization of bioactive substances and fine chemicals; 2) the design, synthesis and performance testing of fluorescent materials; 3) asymmetric catalytic technology and green synthesis methods; 4) technology of drug synthesis and research for crude drugs.
（2）、Natural medicinal chemistry
It mainly includes: 1) the extraction, isolation, structural characterization, bioactivity evaluation, structural modification and utilization of natural products; 2) endophytic fungi and secondary metabolisms of animals or plants.
（3）、Analytical chemistry
It mainly includes: 1) high sensitive and selective analytical methods for environmental toxic pollutants; 2) synthesis and characterization of biomimetic photocatalysts, organic metal complexes and nano-functional materials; 3) degradation mechanism of toxic organic compounds and algae toxins on the surface of catalytic materials.
（4）、Physical chemistry
It mainly includes: 1) the exploitation and utilization of the rich sources of graphite, manganese, iron and phosphorus in the Three Gorges area; 2) the design of fuel cell catalysts, hydrogen storage materials, the interaction and recognition between active drug molecules and biomacromolecule targets, etc.
4、Credit requirement
The total credits for the master's degree in chemistry in China should be no less than 25 credits, of which the course credits should be no less than 21 credits. Among the course credits, there are 13 credits for degree course (basic theory courses, professional courses and Chinese courses), 8 credits for optional courses and 4 credits for practice sections.

6、Practice section
（1）、Literature reading
The postgraduate should write no less than 1 review article in his school system. The review article should contain no less than 30 English literatures, which should not be less 3000 words. The report should be discussed in a certain range. The supervisor should review the article and submit the corresponding results to the Graduate Education Office of the College for keeping on record. At the same time, he will give an academic report in college. All of these are 1 credit.
（2）、Professional practice
Professional practice section should include teaching practice and scientific research practice, which should be summarized after each practice. The summary of practical activities should be evaluated by the supervisor and submitted to the postgraduate training office of the college and recorded with 2 credits. The teaching practice can be carried out in many ways, such as tutoring, questions-answering, correcting homework, guiding students to practice, experimenting, guiding or assisting in the course design or graduation design, etc. The teaching practice content of graduate students must be unified arranged by his supervisor and the Graduate Education Office of the College. Scientific research practice should be carried out in the scientific research projects of his supervisor.
（3）、Academic activities
Academic activities for postgraduates include the participation in professional academic conferences, lectures by experts, and academic seminars for postgraduates organized by colleges or departments. Graduate students should not participate in academic activities less than 20 times, including 6 times per school year. Graduate students should actively participate in social practice activities, at least 6 times per school year. 1 credit will be recorded by the Graduate Education Office of the College.
7、Dissertation requirement
The dissertation for master degree is an important part for the training of graduate students, which is the comprehensive training for them to carry out scientific research or undertake professional job. It is also a key section for cultivating graduate students' innovative ability, using their knowledge to discover, analyze and solve problems. The dissertation thesis includes thesis proposal, medium-term examination, review of dissertation thesis, and defense procedures. The accreditation of dissertations is carried out by the Graduate Education Office of the College.
（1）、The topic of dissertation selection
The topic of dissertation selection for foreign graduate students should come from practical issues or practical problems, which must have a clear professional background and application value.
（2）、Thesis proposal
It usually completes the thesis proposal in the third or the fourth semester. Content requirements: 1) the relevant research and analysis for the selected topic; 2) the theoretical significance and academic value, or the professional background and application value for the selected topic; 3) research content, research methods and technical routes; 4) the expected results and levels; 5) paper form; 6) time arrangement for the thesis work; 7) the conditions or qualifications for the scientific research; 8) references and so on.
（3）、Thesis requirements
China foreign graduate students must write theses (including special reports) when applying for master's degree. Papers can be academic research or technological reports, and can be thematic research, engineering design, case analysis or other reports. The theses or special reports should reflect the degree applicants engaged in scientific research or comprehensive application of basic theory and expertise to solve practical problems. Thesis topics should have certain theoretical significance or practical value in academic or national economic construction, and the results of the thesis should have some new ideas or new contents.
The dissertation should be completed independently, which should reflect the ability of graduate students to solve practical problems by using scientific theories, methods and techniques. The paper should contain clear theories, reliable arguments, rigorous analysis, accurate data and fluent sentences. The Chinese and English abstracts should be about 1000 words for each, together with bibliography and books.
Those who have passed the thesis defense shall submit their thesis to the Academic Degree Assessment Committee of China Three Gorges University for approval and confer a Master's Degree after the signature of the Chairman of the Thesis Defense Committee. Those who have failed in the thesis defense or have applied for a new defense, should ask for the consent of the Thesis Defense Committee, and then revise the thesis and arrange a new defense within one year.
The style and content of the dissertation should conform to the requirements and evaluation criteria of of the "Three Gorges University Master's and Doctoral Dissertation Defense Qualification Standard (Interim)" (China Three Gorges University [2014]28).
（4）、Dissertation defense and degree awarding
The dissertation defense and degree award shall be carried out in accordance with the Detailed Rules for Degree Granting of Three Gorges University (China Three Gorges University [2014]27).
